Cast & Crew
New Yorkers Patricia Smith and Max Silver, an aspiring Jewish doctor, fall in love, but he forsakes her and obeys his father's wishes that he marry a family friend and pursue his medical training in Vienna. Over the years, Pat reads of Max's successes in the newspaper. When he returns to New York, Max attempts to rekindle their romance, but Pat rebukes him. In the meantime, Pat meets Eddie Doyle, a gumball machine salesman, who falls in love with her and eventually proposes. After their marriage, Pat informs Eddie of her first love, and offers to annul the marriage, but Eddie believes his love for her is strong enough to withstand the knowledge of a former love. Pat is hit by a car when she attempts to stop some children from breaking into one of Eddie's machines. While in the hospital, Eddie overhears her murmuring Max's name, and realizes her deep affection for her former lover. He rushes to Max and insists that he operate on Pat. Max's operation saves Pat's life, and because Max's attentions seem to supercede his own, Eddie leaves Pat, sells his business to pay her hospital bills, and disappears. Unable to locate Eddie, Pat plans to recuperate on an ocean voyage and encounters Eddie's friend, Al, at the dock. Al tells her that Eddie is in jail for selling his business, of which she was part owner, without her permission. Pat rushes to the jail, and after she signs the sale form, Eddie is released, and they happily reconcile.
