Forty-nine-year-old millionaire John Hunter Yates has second thoughts about his life and decides to recapture his youth by throwing his business aside and traveling. His wife Elinor, a socialite who thrives on the very lifestyle that John is abandoning, suggests that he see a doctor. One evening, at Elinor's party, John meets actress Blossom Bailey, whose real name is Judy O'Grady, and falls in love with her. After the two become better acquainted, John invites Blossom to join him on a European excursion, which she readily accepts. In Paris, John introduces Blossom to his former music teacher, Zukowski, and the two fall instantly in love. Despite her interest in Zukowski, Blossom decides to remain faithful to John. At Blossom's urging, John finances a concert for Zukowski, who becomes an overnight success. When the Bohemian lifestyle in Paris becomes too much for John to bear, Blossom takes him back to New York. Soon after their arrival, Elinor has a talk with Blossom and realizes that they both have John's best interests at heart. Elinor then tells Blossom that if she fails to win her husband back, she will let her have him. When Zukowski arrives in New York, he tries once again to get Blossom to marry him, but she refuses. John eventually becomes jealous of Blossom's many young suitors and hires a private detective to follow her. On the opening night of Blossom's new play, the detective tells John that the actress is planning to elope with Zukowski the following day. John decides to spy on Blossom himself and hides in her apartment, where he overhears her tell Zukowski that even though she loves Zukowski, she cannot marry him because it would hurt John. Later, after John tells Blossom that she is free to marry the musician, he telephones Elinor and tells her that he is coming home.
