Cast & Crew
Al "fuzzy" St. John
In the small western town of Sagebrush, a violent range war between lawless freight man Jim Kirby and homesteader-advocate Jeff Harper has been causing the homesteaders to flee. Kirby, who controls the valley's water rights, has been recruiting outlaws to do his killing. One day, the sheriff is held up by Kirby and his henchman, Pete, and is forced to release two of Kirby's gang members from jail. Fuzzy Q. Jones, the partner of The Cheyenne Kid, enters and holds up Kirby, but is caught and put in a cell with the sheriff. Fuzzy, an expert lock-picker, helps the sheriff escape and learns that Jeff sent for Cheyenne to help him stop the range war. When Cheyenne arrives, the outlaws are waiting for him, and he engages them in a gunfight, which he wins. Meanwhile, in town, homesteader Dan Clark is blamed for the murder of one of Kirby's men--whom Dan shot in self-defense--and takes refuge at the home of Tom Grant, where Cheyenne is staying. After the gang arrives to kill Dan, Cheyenne and Tom lick them in a fistfight. Jeff then explains to Cheyenne that he took over the land holdings of the homesteaders in order to fight Kirby. Later at a meeting with the sheriff, Cheyenne realizes that the combined rewards for Kirby's gang of "Wanted" men total $33,000--enough to pay off the homesteaders' mortgages in time for them to file a deed with the county. Cheyenne, Fuzzy, the sheriff and Dan then make the rounds arresting the hired killers, and Cheyenne and Tom take them to the state capitol to stand trial. As the homesteaders turn over their mortgages to Dan, Fuzzy goes to the neighboring town of Kingston to get the reward money. On his way home, during an ambush, he bumps his head and falls into a state of amnesia. Kirby's men find only rocks and paper in Fuzzy's saddlebag, however, and realize they have been tricked. Dan, meanwhile, has found Fuzzy, who cannot remember what he did with the money. In order to take Kay hostage, Kirby sends her a phony message that Tom has been hurt, and she leaves for the capitol. When Tom goes to rescue her, he is held up and forced to sign over the land to Kirby in order to save Kay's life. Cheyenne, meanwhile, returns and assures the dazed Fuzzy that he is an expert safecracker. In town, Cheyenne holds up Kirby while Fuzzy opens his safe. Using a writing sample, Cheyenne proves that Kirby forged the note to Kay and has made a deal with the railroad. A fistfight then breaks out, during which Fuzzy falls and bumps his head again, and Cheyenne defeats Kirby. After the sheriff arrests Kirby, Cheyenne rescues Tom and Kay. Later Fuzzy revives and remembers where he hid the money, but, riding off to retrieve it, forgets his pants.
