Cast & Crew
Rancher Hank Gelbert's foreman, Jess Brand, hopes to marry Hank's daughter Ann in order to gain an interest in the flourishing Gelbert ranch. His persistence angers Gelbert, who orders Brand off of his land. When Gelbert opens his safe to pay Brand his final wages, Brand shoots him and steals the money. Meanwhile, on the road outside of town, cowboy Tom Rayburn encounters Jeremiah Mathews, a medicine salesman and ventriloquist. Then while Brand meets Ann on the road to the ranch and tries to convince her that he loves her, Tom arrives at the Gelbert ranch and finds Gelbert's body. Ann and Brand arrive and, finding Tom leaning over the body, assume that he is the murderer. Pretending to search Tom, Brand plants the stolen money on him and tries to goad Ann into shooting him, but she chooses to call the sheriff instead. Tom escapes before the sheriff arrives but later returns and shows Ann a letter from her father offering him the foreman's job. He adds that Brand had more to gain from her father's death than he did. He then heads into town to find Mathews, who is the only witness who can prove his innocence. Brand sees them talking and kidnaps Mathews outside of town. Tom spots Mathews' abandoned car and frees him, and the two men return to the ranch. Mathews clears Tom, but Brand interrupts and holds both men at gunpoint. Throwing his voice, Mathews pretends to be the dead Gelbert and makes Brand so nervous that he confesses. Tom then rounds up Brand's men and Ann offers him a job as foreman.
