Jane Rankin travels west to the small town of Cactus to be with her ailing father. On the way, her stagecoach is robbed by two bandits. Disappointed by the take, the bandits decide to kidnap Jane and hold her for ransom. They are stopped by Johnny Day and his sidekick Tex, who chase them away. Jane arrives in Cactus to find that her father has died and left her his restaurant. The town bully, Bart Morgan, claims Jane as his girl, shooting any man he thinks might be trespassing on his "territory." When Johnny, who has been appointed town marshal, eats dinner in Jane's restaurant, Bart warns him to stay away from her. Meanwhile, seeing several of Dan Cather's cowhands in town, Bart and his crony, Red Thompson, take the opportunity to rustle Cather's cattle. With Johnny's help, Jane escapes from town to Cather's camp. When Red threatens Cather, he sees Jane there and brings her back to Cactus. Johnny follows. Morgan fights with him and warns him to get out of town. Frightened for Johnny, Jane tells Morgan that Red has been annoying her. The two men fight over Jane, killing each other. The way is now clear for Johnny and Jane to marry.
