Cast & Crew
After Gene is hired to sing on a radio program sponsored by Alta Vista Oil Company, he soon discovers that his employers are crooked oil promoters who are trying to peddle the land on which a poor Mexican orphanage is located. Quitting his job, Gene goes to Mexico to investigate. There, he is befriended by Valdez, a Mexican bandit who fancies himself a modern day Robin Hood, and Padre Dominic, a kindly old priest who runs the orphanage with his niece, Anita Loredo. The padre tells Gene that he has leased the land on a royalty basis to Carruthers, the head of the oil company, but that the company has no plans of drilling and is making money by selling worthless shares in a non-existent well. Without the royalties, the orphanage will go bankrupt, and so Gene hits upon a scheme to entice Carruthers to sink a well. After pinpointing the land most likely to contain oil, Gene, his sidekick, Frog, and Valdez plant oil in the area, tricking the company into building a derrick. Just as construction is completed, however, Carruthers learns of Gene's ruse and abandons the well. Gene then convinces the investors to buy up the rest of the well, and when Carruthers discovers that there really is oil on the land, he begins a campaign of sabotage. When two little orphans become victims of that campaign, Valdez sacrifices his life to save the waifs, and as the well comes in, the bandit dies like a true Robin Hood by insuring that the orphans will never have to worry about money again.
Modern sources add Joe Dominguez, Al Haskell, Merrill McCormack, Fred Toones, Sherry Hall, Al Taylor, Josef Swickard, Tom London, Jack Ingram, Eddie Parker and Champion to the cast and note that the film was shot on location around the Palmdale, CA area.
