Cast & Crew
Smitty, a United States marshal assigned to discover the hiding place of $250,000 in stolen bonds, poses as a convict to win the confidence of Butch, the leader of the gang that stole the bonds. Hoping that Butch will lead him to the stolen loot, Smitty stages a jailbreak with the gang leader and accompanies him to the Utah badlands, where they hire on as cowboys on Judge Carlton's ranch. When cattle rustlers raid the ranch, Parker, the head of the rustlers, recognizes Butch as head of the robbers. After driving off the rustlers, Butch takes Smitty to the spot where he buried the loot, but discovers it is missing. Butch suspects his former accomplices of stealing the money, and that night, he questions Cookie, a member of his old gang, about the missing money. When Cookie denies any knowledge of the loot, Butch gets into an argument with Carlton's foreman, who fires him. While Butch rides into town, Smitty visits the Carlton house, where the judge hands him a coded letter from headquarters. In town, Butch meets two members of his old gang, who take him to Parker. Butch and Parker suspect each other of having the loot, but they finally conclude that neither one has it, but that Cookie knows its location. The following morning, Butch and his pals kidnap Cookie and take him to their cabin, where he confesses that he dug up the money and hid it in Carlton's safe. At that moment, Smitty enters, and in the ensuing struggle, he drops his badge, revealing his identity as a federal officer. Butch takes Smitty prisoner and leaves him under guard while he and the others ride to the Carlton ranch to reclaim the money. While the gang lays siege to the ranch, Smitty tricks his guard and hurries to the ranch. There, he captures the gang and sends Butch back to the penitentiary.
