New York society polo player Craig "Lucky" Larrigan tries to impress Virginia, the daughter of his father's business partner, J. C. Bailey. John Larrigan is a partner in Bailey's ranch in the West and the Baileys are in New York to get additional funds to cover losses from rustlers. Lucky asks Virginia to marry him, but she knows she won't be happy in the city and refuses. When the Baileys return to the ranch, Lucky follows with Pedro, a thief he knows who is familiar with the area, determined to win Virginia. Lucky and Pedro disguise themselves as Mexican bandits and rob the Baileys as a joke. Lucky goes to the ranch, still in disguise, and makes a pass at Virginia. When the sheriff rides up to talk to Bailey about the robbery, Lucky and Pedro escape. As they ride away with the sheriff in pursuit, they see the rustlers and follow them. The sheriff catches one of the rustlers and jails him. Lucky and Pedro go into town, are identified as the ones who robbed the Baileys, and are jailed. Virginia recognizes Lucky but decides not to help him as revenge for his joke. When they help the rustler to escape, he invites them to join the others. Lucky leaves a note for Virginia explaining what he is doing and where to meet them with the sheriff. Kurt, the Baileys' foreman, is involved in the rustling but leaves the decision about accepting Lucky and Pedro to the boss, who turns out to be Bailey, who has been rustling his own cattle. Bailey recognizes Lucky and tries to make a run for it, but is shot in the ensuing gunfight and killed. When Virginia arrives with the sheriff, Lucky forces Kurt to admit to being the leader to shield Virginia from the truth. Lucky settles down in the West, marries Virginia, and starts a family.
