When Jack Lewis strikes gold, Bruce Conway, soon to be married to Jack's sister Arline, accompanies him to the claim office with his nuggets. En route, Jack is shot dead by outlaw Hank Davis, who saw Jack at the mine. Bruce chases after Davis and turns him in to Sheriff Anderson. That night, Jack's friends break into the jail and abduct Davis, planning to lynch him at sunrise. Bruce and his friend, Whitey, rush to the scene in disguise and save Davis from the mob. In order to learn the location of Jack's mine, Bruce follows Davis to his gang hideout, where Bruce reveals his identity and offers to work the mine with Davis. When a gang member named Pete enters, he and Davis hold up Bruce. Although Whitey enters and tries to save Bruce, both of them are knocked out and left, with their limbs cuffed, in the desert to die. After Bruce removes the gun from Whitey's boot, he and Whitey shoot the cuffs off and escape. Meanwhile, Arline and Mrs. Lewis find the map to the gold mine in Jack's watch, and Arline goes in search of Bruce. After realizing that Davis is on the loose, Arline goes to the claim office and secures her right to the gold, then visits the mine, where Pete is collecting gold. When Arline sees Bruce's horse, which Pete has been using, he ties her to a tree. Whitey and Bruce, meanwhile, come upon a tent and water and discover that the tent was Jack's. Finding a nearby trail to the mine, Bruce and Whitey find Arline and untie her, then tie up Pete and take the gold. Davis and the gang arrive and, finding Pete, search for Bruce, Whitey and Arline on foot. Forced out of the tent as the gang encroaches, Bruce tries to distract the gang from Whitey and Arline, who have the gold, but Davis anticipates this move and goes after Whitey, who is shot in the hip, and captures Arline and the gold. When the sheriff and his posse arrive, Bruce sets them on the trail of the gang members, while he and the sheriff go after Davis. Bruce finds Whitey and goes after Arline, who is headed into the desert with Davis. When Arline sees a sign warning against poisoned water, she turns it over and pretends to drink. Although Davis sees the poison sign, Pete drinks and dies. As Bruce finally spots them, Davis puts his gun in Arline's back, unaware that earlier she had removed the bullets. Arline flees and Bruce shoots the gun from Davis' hand and knocks him out in a fistfight. The sheriff arrests Davis and gives water to Arline, who kisses Bruce.
