When Sandy Hopkins receives a letter from his ex-partner, Luke Stone, asking for help, Sandy and his cohort, Nevada McKenzie, ride to Green Valley, Luke's home. At the local saloon, Sandy and Nevada are greeted with hostility by Miller, one of Luke's enemies. After pummeling Miller, Nevada and Sandy set up camp in the hills to await word from Luke. Soon after they leave town, Miller meets with his partners Condon and Dan Stanton, a crooked businessman. Unknown to the ranchers in the valley, Stanton has foreclosed on Luke's ranch so that he can dam the stream running through the land, thus depriving the other ranchers of water and making their land worthless. The partners' plan to sell the land to the railroad is being jeopardized by Luke, who has threatened to take them to court, and consequently, Stanton orders his henchman, Al Green, to kill Luke. That night, Ann, Luke's niece, meets Sandy and Nevada at their camp and explains that Luke is hiding out because his life is in danger. As Ann leads Sandy and Nevada to her uncle's hideout, they are attacked by a lone rider, whom is wounded in the arm by Nevada before disappearing into the night. Upon arriving at Luke's hideout, Sandy and Nevada find that Luke has been murdered, and Nevada surmises that the man who attacked them was also Luke's killer. When Ann explains that her uncle's ranch was seized by Condon and Miller, Nevada rides to the ranch in search of a man with a wounded arm. At the ranch, meanwhile, Condon bandages Al's wound and then instructs him to hide in the barn. Soon after, Nevada arrives and tells Condon that he and Sandy were Luke's partners in the ranch. Nevada's suspicions are aroused when Condon then offers him a share of the profits in exchange for his claim on the ranch. Sandy, meanwhile, accompanies Ann to town to inform the sheriff of her uncle's death. He then rides back to join Nevada. Having agreed to consider Condon's offer, Nevada leaves the ranch, and Condon then slips out the back door and orders his henchmen to bushwack Nevada on his way to town. On the trail, Sandy sees the men waiting to ambush Nevada and warns him. From a distance, Sandy and Nevada watch as Condon and Miller confer with Al and then ride off. They then return to the ranch house and capture Al. Al overpowers them, however, and jumps on Nevada's horse and gallops off. Nevada and Sandy follow him, but the bushwackers mistake Al for Nevada and shoot and kill him. After reclaiming his horse, Nevada proceeds with Sandy to town, where Ann introduces them to Tom Findley, her uncle's lawyer, who explains that Condon and Miller dammed the stream after seizing Luke's property, thus depriving the ranchers of their water and driving them into foreclosure. When Findley reveals that he has recently discovered that the railroad plans to build a line through the valley, Nevada deduces Condon, Stanton and Miller's scheme and asks Findley to assemble the ranchers for a meeting. At the meeting, Nevada formulates a plan to restore the water to the valley. Riding to Luke's ranch, Nevada, Sandy and the ranchers overpower Miller and his henchmen and then order them out of the valley. As Nevada and the others dynamite the dam, Miller rides into town to confront Stanton, who shoots and kills Miller. After blowing up the dam, Nevada rides to Stanton's office to demand the deeds to the ranches and there discovers Miller's body. Soon after, Sandy and the sheriff arrive at Stanton's office, and when Stanton accuses Nevada of murdering Miller, the sheriff reveals that Nevada is a U.S. Marshal. With the arrest of Stanton and Condon, the ranchers regain their land and Nevada and Sandy bid Ann and the ranchers farewell.
