Cast & Crew
Peter Evans intends to leave the United States for Canada to avoid the draft, but his father and his fiancée, Doris, persuade him to stay. Inducted into the Army, he is sent to Vietnam and killed in action. Peter's younger brother, Alan, is also approaching draft age, but he rebels against his father and blames Doris for Peter's death. Alan leaves home and meets Richie Kovacs, a hippie who agrees to go with him to Canada; they steal a car and set out for a work camp in British Columbia. Alan, who has become increasingly volatile since his brother's death, kills two policemen who attempt to prevent them from stealing gasoline. A short time later, the two fugitives decide to change cars to avoid detection. They stop at a garage where Alan kills an attendant and steals another car. Upon arriving in Vancouver, Alan and Richie learn of a public appeal made by Alan's father encouraging his son to surrender to the authorities. Richie then telephones the police and tells of their whereabouts, but Alan forces Richie to flee with him. Pursued by the police across the countryside, they are trapped, and Alan is shot while attempting to escape.
