When Professor Andrew Hartwell, an entomologist, camps near the Mexican border in search of a new bug, he is murdered and his niece Barbara is held hostage at their hacienda by ranch hand Jim Barton. Travelling cowboys Larry O'Day and his partner, Lucky Smith, decide to camp at the deserted hacienda, where they discover Barbara. After Lucky is nearly strangled by an elusive assailant, Larry finds Dr. Von Kurtz attempting to steal specimens from Hartwell's lab. Next, a Chinese man arrives at the door looking for pig farmer Obed Young, who has been threatening the Hartwells to leave the hacienda. When the sheriff arrives for Hartwell's autopsy, he arrests Barbara on suspicion of murder, claiming the bullet came from her gun. An anonymous man then helps Barbara escape, but hands her over to Barton, who tries to force her to marry him. As she tries to escape, she falls off her horse and is knocked unconscious. Lucky, meanwhile, sees young Chinese women disappearing inside the house and, finding a movable wall, lands in the middle of a smuggling ring run by Chon Lee, who has been selling the women as brides to wealthy Americans. Upon discovering Von Kurtz stealing from the lab, Larry is knocked out. Barton then places Barbara in Lee's care until she revives. After overhearing Barton's plans to have Young smuggle her across the border, Lucky finds a letter written by Hartwell saying Lee threatened to kill him. Larry finally finds Lucky and races to rescue Barbara, but the sheriff intervenes and chases the couple back to the hacienda. There, Lucky names Lee as Hartwell's killer, and Barbara is free to marry Larry.

Two contemporary reviews and the copyright material credit Hans Joby with the part of Dr. Von Kurtz, although John Peters is credited on the film.
