Cast & Crew
Small-time thief Carl arrives in Beirut after narrowly eluding his archenemy Marco. Carl meets Alfred, an old friend, and joins him in a robbery scheme aimed at Grubert, a millionaire gambler. The two men devise an intricate plan to keep track of Grubert's success at the tables because Grubert always takes his winnings in cash. Carl meets Salène, a beautiful, free-spirited girl whose nickname is Sauterelle, meaning "grasshopper." Learning that Marco is on his trail again, Carl suddenly leaves Beirut to go to the country with Salène. He telephones Alfred and discovers that Marco has deferred his plan to kill Carl and, instead, will participate in the Grubert robbery. Carl plans to leave Beirut with Salène and begin his life afresh. He returns to Beirut, and one night at the casino Grubert suddenly begins to win heavily. Carl informs Alfred and Marco, who lie in wait outside, then leaves with Salène. The robbery fails as the police kill Marco and capture Alfred.
