After an attempt at suicide, Laura Benton is placed under the care of Dr. Milton Goldstone, a psychiatrist. The events which have led to this desperate climax are unfolded. Seduced in a hayloft, Laura abandons herself to a life of promiscuity. She is beaten by her drunken, incestuous stepfather and leaves home for New York City. There she becomes more and more compulsive in her search for the sexual satisfaction she can never find. Working as a nightclub waitress, she performs a torrid dance and wins a job as a featured dancer. She seduces the club manager, becomes a nude model, and seduces a photographer. She becomes his steady girl friend, vainly hoping to find satisfaction in a stable relationship. Her boyfriend returns home to find her in bed with the club manager, and she resumes her life of compulsive promiscuity. She spends a weekend making love with Bebe, a lesbian, but still remains unsatisfied. As her search grows more and more frantic, she becomes unbearably frustrated. After a wild orgy, she tries to kill herself. The psychiatrist fears that Laura will continue on the path of unremitting promiscuity if his cure is not successful.
