Cast & Crew
The Vicar of Wakefield endures much hardship at the hands of misfortune. First his eldest son, spurned in love, leaves home, followed by the elopement of his eldest daughter, Olivia, with the unscrupulous Squire Wilmot. Next his youngest son, sent to sell the colt to obtain the tuition needed for his sisters' finishing school, squanders the money on green spectacles. The vicar then sets out in search of Olivia, only to have his horse and money stolen. Penniless, he joins a troop of strolling players and eventually finds Olivia, who has been abandoned by the squire. Father and daughter then return home only to find their house in flames. Soon after the squire reappears and has the old man thrown in prison for non-payment of debts. The Vicar's fate is mercifully reversed by the arrival of Mr. Burchell, the squire's superior who calls the squire to account and marries Olivia, and by the return of the vicar's eldest son.
