While practicing her dancing steps one day, Adele, an aspiring young chorine, accidently kicks her shoe out the window and it lands on John Horton, a dignified young broker. Running out the fire escape to retrieve her shoe, Adele becomes dizzy and falls. Realizing that there is a publicity story in the incident, Adele's friend Blanche announces that the impoverished young chorine tried to commit suicide. Sympathetic, John tells Adele that if she ever needs help, she should call him. Adele takes John up on his offer when her boyfriend, composer Vincent Harvey, completes the opera that he had been writing. John consents to produce the piece, and Vincent becomes an instant success. With fame, Vincent neglects Adele, and even though she is warned that he has but two loves in life, himself and his music, Adele remains true and ignores the fact that John has fallen in love with her. Vincent's selfishness is driven home, however, when Adele's apartment catches fire and the composer rushes over to save his musical score, while John arrives to rescue her.
