Synopsis

Mr. Shye, a theological student, follows a beautiful young woman to the door of Maxim's, a Broadway cabaret, and there discovers that she is a dancer named Tottie Twinkletoes. That night, Shye and his three friends dine at Maxim's, where they are delighted by the dancers and completely enthralled by Tottie's charms. In turn, Shye and each of his friends steal backstage, only to find that the guard posted at Tottie's door must be well paid before he will admit an admirer inside. Tottie smilingly receives her visitors, promising to dine with each of them after the show, but at the rear entrance, they find her departing arm in arm with her husband, the guard.

Notes

The film was also known as Maxim's at Midnight. The Kalem Co. published a special score, written by Walter C. Simon, to accompany the film. The subtitles provided the musical cues. The company also built an "exact imitation" of New York's Maxim's for the production. In the film, the Maxim Cabaret Girls appeared in "The Pajama Parade," "The Bon Bon Belles," "The Oriental Maids," "Novelty Dance" and "Maxim's Ballet." The Rector Girls danced in "The Vest Number," "A Chinese Fantasy" and "The Eye Promenade." The Bustanoby Girls appeared in "The Muff Number," "The Donkey Dance" and "Bathing Revue."
