Cast & Crew
Nadina is just a poor shop girl in a New York City department store when she is told that she has ascended to the throne of a European Kingdom. Upon her arrival in her new kingdom, a revolt is lead against the crown by revolutionary leader Carl. Despite the best efforts of her chancellor and general, Nadina is overthrown only a few minutes after her coronation as queen. She flees the country with her nurse, Marie Soubrekoff, and the two make their way to Paris, where they hope to live the high life of deposed royalty. Nadina soon grows tired of the social circles of France, and decides to travel incognito to a distant mountain retreat in Switzerland. There she meets Carl, also incognito, who is trying to rest from the trials and tribulations of being president. Though Carl deposed her, neither has ever seen the other, so neither is recognized. Although their relationship initially gets off to a rocky start, the two soon become friends. General Korensky learns that Carl is on holiday in the same spot as Nadina, and fears an assassination attempt upon the deposed queen. He rushes to her side, and tells her Carl's true identity. Nadina, thinking that Carl knew who she was all along, arranges to meet with him at his chalet, where her soldiers are waiting to capture him. Once the two meet at the chalet, however, Nadina has a change of heart and allows Carl to escape. A counter revolution begins, and soon thereafter, Nadina is back on the throne. Carl, now a deposed leader himself, is captured and brought before her. Nadina then decides to keep Carl as her consort, resolving both the country's political problems, and the two rulers' romantic entanglements.
