Cast & Crew
When the Standard Railroad Company makes plans to run tracks through White Horse Valley, swindler Charlie Doan schemes to buy up all the land in the valley and then reap a large profit when he sells it to the railroad. Doan's henchmen, known as the "Night Riders," terrorize the ranchers in order to intimidate them into selling. Ruth Williams, owner of the "Running M" ranch, which is a key property in the valley, refuses to sell to Doan, even though Doan has appointed his henchman, Steve, to scare her. When cowboy Jack Benson and his friends, Harry, Bill and Chuck, ride by the Running M, Ruth's kid brother Dickie holds them up and forces them to ride to the ranch house, with the intention of forming a vigilante group to catch the Night Riders. Jack and his friends humor Dickie and offer their services as ranch hands to Ruth. Continuing their terrorizing, Night Riders Steve and Pete set the Running M barn on fire and escape. After Doan learns that Jack has bought an option on a ranch owned by Jimmie Green, he tells Ruth that Jack is duplicitous, and she orders him off the property under penalty of being shot. Dickie, convinced of Jack's innocence, asks to leave with him, but Jack insists that he stay on the ranch and protect Ruth. Although Doan tries to force Jack out of the valley, Jack reveals that he is a special investigator for the railroad and is thereby empowered to buy property for the right-of-way in his own name. He then offers to become Doan's partner in buying up the valley, pretending to betray his employers. Thus, when the Night Riders drive off all of Ruth's horses in one last attempt to force her to sell, Jack and his friends are prepared and round up the horses while bringing down the gang. Jack then regains Ruth's trust, and the railroad is run through another valley. Jack and Ruth can now stay at the ranch as husband and wife, thus delighting Dickie.
The film was advertised as "James Oliver Curwood's Wild Horse Round-up." Modern sources add Jack Ingram, Bud Pope, Frank McCarroll and Nelson McDowell to the cast.
