Synopsis
Ralph Brooks meets Rita Reynolds, the designing wife of a wealthy broker, at a fashionable reception. Attracted to Ralph, Rita exaggerates her husband's brutalities to win his sympathy. After Rita opens her husband's safe and plans to elope with Ralph, Reynolds returns and, surmising his wife's adulterous intentions, attempts to shoot her. In their struggle, Reynolds dies. Rita then phones the police to pin the murder on "Red" Hall, a burglar who witnessed the killing. When Ralph arrives and repulses Rita, she tells the police that he killed Reynolds. While serving a twenty-year sentence, Ralph reforms his tough cellmate "Tug" Riley. Meanwhile Hall blackmails Rita, and when her money runs out, Hall plans a reception to rob her wealthy friends. After Ralph and Riley escape, Riley accepts Hall's offer to help with the robbery. While Riley arranges for the police to catch Hall with a diamond pendant, Rita sees Ralph masquerading as Reynolds' dead body, and she confesses. Ralph is exonerated and returns to his faithful mother and sweetheart.
