Cast & Crew
Romulus and his twin brother, Remus, compete for the leadership of Rome. After murdering his brother, Romulus assumes complete control of the city and promises the citizens a happy life. Since the entire population of the new city is male, Romulus sends Hostes to ask the neighboring Sabine women to become Roman wives. The offer is rejected, however, and Romulus devises a plan to trick the women into coming to Rome; they are invited to a fair and, upon arriving, are forced into marrying the Romans. Romulus marries the Sabine king's daughter Hersilia, and Hostes marries Hersilia's younger sister, Rhea. Titus Tatius, king of the Sabines, plots revenge, and after 2 years of building an army, the Sabines march into Rome. The bloody battle is stopped by the Sabine women, who reveal that they have grown to love their Roman captors and now fight along with their husbands to repel the onslaught.
Produced in 1958 as El rapto de las sabinas. Alternative title: The Mating of the Sabine Women. Also known as The Rape of the Sabines; an Italian film of the same title was not released in the United States during the 1960's. Frank Oliver is a pseudonym for Francisco Olivos del Valle.
