Cast & Crew
Ted Ewing entrusts $50,000 belonging to his ward Nora Hildreth, whom he loves, and $50,000 of his own, to broker Sam Parker to invest in Potash preferred stock on Parker's advice. After Parker disappears, Ted takes out a $50,000 life insurance policy payable to Nora. Because it contains a clause disallowing payment for suicide, Ted tries to arrange to die "accidentally." After a few misguided attempts, Ted pays his Japanese valet Oki a sum to deliver to Bruno Schwartz, the leader of a black hand organization, if they will kill him after five that afternoon. While Ted waits in terror for his "accident," Parker notifies him that his disappearance caused other brokers to sell, and that now the stock has doubled. Rather than go back on his word, Oki attempts hara-kiri. After Ted proposes to Nora's doting Aunt Diddy, to get money from her to pay off Schwartz, the gang is called off. Ted and Nora marry as Aunt Diddy smiles in resignation.
