T'Su Wong Shih, a Chinese prince, loves Quan Yin, a gardener's daughter, though his uncle plans to marry him into a wealthy mandarin family; and before leaving for America to obtain an education, he promises the girl that he will join her soon. Following graduation from college, while visiting a slave auction in San Francisco's Chinatown, he recognizes his beloved one and bids $5,000 for her; he wins but is unable to raise the required sum. The auctioneer agrees to give him a three-year extension on the payment, and T'Su Wong Shih goes to work at various sorts of jobs but meets with little success until he wins a lottery prize. Threats from an Oriental gangster induce the auctioneer to yield his captive, but T'Su Wong Shih engages in a fight with the gangster, rescues Quan Yin, and claims her for his wife.
