Synopsis
At the turn of the century, diplomatic relations between Japan and Russia are broken when, following the Boxer Rebellion, Russia refuses to remove its troops from Manchuria. Admiral Togo, commander-in-chief of the combined Japanese fleet, plans to destroy the Russian Asiatic fleet at Port Arthur and Vladivostok and sends Commander Hirose to blockade Port Arthur. Despite an attack by Japanese land forces, the Russian fleet runs the blockade to join the Vladivostok squadron. In Oct 1904, the Russian Baltic fleet, led by Admiral Rozhdestvenski, leaves Libau; Togo assumes they are headed for the Japan Sea. On May 27, 1905, the Japanese fleet soundly defeats the Baltic fleet in the Tushima Strait before the Russians can reach embattled Port Arthur.
