Cast & Crew
Marcia Grey struggles to support herself and her ailing sister as an artist but finds no market for her work in New York. When Marcia rejects a lustful German named Von Holtz, he angrily frames her for robbery, and she is sent to Blackwells Island prison for several months. Upon her release, she finds that her sister has died and considers suicide, but decides instead to work for the Salvation Army. Soon she becomes acquainted with philanthropist John Stanford, and in time they marry. After the United States formally joins with the Allies in World War I, John becomes attached to the Secret Service. Von Holtz, now a spy for the Germans, visits the Stanfords in the guise of English nobleman Sir Robert Denby, but when Marcia recognizes him, he threatens to reveal her past to John unless she assists him in securing secret documents from John's office. Marcia pretends to acquiesce but immediately tells her husband everything, and soon Von Holtz is behind bars.
In a print of this film re-issued after World War I, the villain is not a German spy but a British counterfeiter. The later version credits Myrtle Rishell with the role of Joan and names Leone Carton's character Cora Grey.
