Newlywed Dorothy Ralston exchanges an Aztec idol belonging to her husband for a peddler's silk shawl, and Cambridge, an artist and her neighbor, realizes the idol's value and buys it from the peddler. When her husband informs her that the statue is a rare objet d'art and she learns of its new owner, Dorothy slips up the fire escape to retrieve it and hides from the artist, who happens to be knocked unconscious by a jujitsu throw of his Japanese servant. She revives him and buys back the idol for a kiss. The arrival of Dr. Ralston, the irate wife of the artist, and the police provides a general mixup, which is followed by a happy denouement.
