Cast & Crew
The primary interest of widowed jeweler Herman Krauss is his daughter Marie, and so when she is old enough, he carefully arranges a marriage between her and Fred Spiegel, the son of his best friend Otto. Marie has other ideas, however, and elopes with Frank MacPherson, the son of Herman's chief business rival. Two years later, Herman still has not forgiven Marie, whom Frank deserted before the birth of their baby. Complicating matters, it is soon learned that the marriage was not legal, thereby making Marie's child illegitimate. Finally, Herman allows Marie to live with him and, eventually being won over by his grandchild, comes to forgive her. Marie then marries Fred, who had never stopped loving her, and so provides her child with a caring, dependable father.
William A. Brady produced and directed the original New York production of the play.
