In the Canadian forest lives D'Arcambal with his daughter Jeanne (known as "The Flower of the North") and a halfbreed servant, Pierre. Philip Whittemore, a young American, arrives and forms the Northern Fish and Development Company, backed by Brokaw, a New York capitalist. Brokaw, however, sends Thorpe, an unscrupulous associate, with instructions to delay the work of the company, and D'Arcambal revokes Whittemore's right-of-way through his holdings. Thorpe convinces Jeanne, who is unaware that her mother eloped with a lover before she was born, that he is her father. Whittemore rescues Jeanne from drowning, and when Thorpe and his gang attack Whittemore's camp Jeanne brings a band of friendly Indians to Whittemore's aid. Thorpe is defeated, Jeanne learns that D'Arcambal is really her father, and she is united with Philip.
