Geraldine Farleigh supports her impoverished, aristocratic family, which consists of her mother, aunt, and little brother, by teaching at the village school. A $3,000 debt incurred by Geraldine's grandfather is owed to Bruce Cartwright, represented by the law firm of Bullers and Smith, who threatens to foreclose the mortgage and sell the Farleigh home. The young and handsome Bullers arrives and promises to get Cartwright to give Geraldine more time. Geraldine and Bullers appear to be falling in love. A letter later arrives from the daughter of the postmaster that announces she has eloped with Bullers. Geraldine is hurt, and tries to raise the money by starting a flower garden. Bullers returns to town and denies the elopement. Mrs. Bullers arrives accompanied by a stranger who turns out to be the real Bullers. The imposter is Cartwright who has fallen in love with Geraldine. A receipt for the money is found, and Cartwright wins Geraldine.
