Cast & Crew
Margie Orkin and her little brother Buddy are rescued by neighboring rancher Rod Kent after they are driven up a tree by a steer. Although Rod wrestles the steer to the ground, Margie teases him by saying that he is not yet a man. With the encouragement of Joe, her father, however, who approves of Rod, Margie attends a barn dance with him. The dance is interrupted by the arrival of three suspicious strangers, and a fight ensues after one of them spits on Pardner, Rod's loyal dog. Shortly after, the three men show up at the Orkin ranch, where, much to her dismay, Margie discovers that they are her father's long lost half-brother, Bill Larkins, and his sons, Slim and Holt. Larkins wants Joe to help him steal cattle from the neighboring Kent ranch and when Joe balks at the scheme, Larkins threatens to blackmail Joe by exposing the fact that he did not finish a prison term in Kansas. To add to Joe's problems, Holt harasses Margie, and when Joe intervenes, Larkins beats him up. When Rod arrives the next day to visit, Margie rebuffs him, fearing that the Larkins will harm him. At the Kent ranch, Rod and his father soon discover that some of their cattle are missing, and when the elder Kent catches on to the Larkinses scheme, he is shot and seriously wounded by Holt. Rod, suspicious of the Larkins, leads the Sheriff to the Orkin ranch, but Larkins claims that the rifle used to shoot Kent belongs to Joe, and later he tells a distraught Joe that he will provide him with an alibi. However, Margie later overhears Holt and Slim discussing Kent's shooting and making plans to frame her father, and so sends Buddy to Rod for help. Rod is initially skeptical, believing that Margie is truly interested in Holt, but he is finally convinced to go to the Orkins' rescue when he learns that Holt has shot Pardner in the leg. Rod succeeds in rescuing Margie from the ranch, where Holt has been holding her prisoner, but as they attempt to flee in Rod's wagon, they are pursued by the Larkinses. In the meantime, Rod's father has regained consciousness and identified Holt as his assailant, and the Sheriff and his deputies set off in pursuit of the Larkinses. Rod, whose job is made easier by the fact that Buddy had earlier removed all the bullets from the Larkins' guns, single-handedly fights, lassos and hogties the three villains. The Sheriff arrives to take the Larkinses off to jail and to inform Rod that his father is out of danger, while Margie expresses her admiration for Rod's bravery and strength. Finally, realizing that Rod is indeed a man who can take care of her, she kisses him.
