Cast & Crew
United States Army Cavalry sergeants Steve Hazard and Jim Ward are always fighting over something, even though they are best friends. The two are forced to make a hasty retreat from Bullion City when crooked saloon manager Sam Ridgeway threatens to call the sheriff after they are caught in a bar fight. While riding back to Fort Rocky, Steve and Jim break up an attempted stagecoach robbery, but rather than being rewarded for their heroism, the two are busted to private because of the earlier fight. The demotions are short-lived, however, as their enlistments are up the next day, but Steve and Jim are ready to re-enlist as soon as they see newly arrived Dale Starr, whom they mistake for Minerva Sawyer, the mail order fiancée of their dimwitted friend, Corporal Chatter T. Boxie. While Jim re-enlists, Steve meets with Blaine Cornwall, a special investigator for the treasury department, who asks the soldier to act as an undercover agent in order to expose the stagecoach robbery gang. Because the operation is non-military, Steve is unable to tell Jim why he has failed to re-enlist, so Jim assumes his friend has deserted him for Dale. Meanwhile, Ridgeway meets with Norman Brett, the owner of the Golden Eagle mine, who not only has been stealing gold from the government-owned Atlas mine, but has also organized the stage robberies in order to force the other miners out of business. Brett and Ridgeway plot to steal the Atlas payroll from the next stage, but are beaten to it by Steve and Chatter, who decided to join Steve on the secret mission after meeting the real Minerva. Later, Ridgeway catches Steve stealing the Army relief fund from the Bullion City Bank, but rather than turning him in, the two discuss a possible partnership. Steve and Chatter then offer to organize the robbery of the Fort Rocky commissary fund, but Jim, who thinks that his friends have gone bad, later interrupts their planned rendezvous with Ridgeway's boss. While Steve exchanges gunfire with Jim, the others make their escape. Steve and Jim are both later arrested and taken back to Fort Rocky, while Cornwall and Chatter meet with Brett about the commissary fund robbery. After that meeting, Cornwall is shot in an ambush by Ridgeway, but Chatter survives and rushes the wounded man to Fort Rocky, where the ex-soldier attempts to explain all. Sgt. Clark, the acting officer of the fort, does not believe his story, so Steve and Chatter are forced to escape and ride to the convoy's rescue. They arrive, along with the soldiers chasing them, just as Brett's gang is finishing its attack. Brett and his men are captured, and Steve, Jim and Chatter are returned to their full ranks in the cavalry. Later, Steve and Jim fight once again, this time over Dale, while Chatter is finally captured by his intended, Minerva.
