Beyond the main five senses of sight, touch, taste, smell and hearing, there are numerous cases of people who've detected situations that were invisible to others. Some chalk this up to instinct or preconditioning, where a person has been in a situation before, otherwise known as a "hunch." But could the brain be picking up on signals the conscious mind doesn't detect? How does a customs officer's hunch lead to the discovery of a major criminal? How does a fireman instinctively know an area is a "killzone"? Why is the military now training the marines to use their intuition in combat? Science is showing us that our gut instincts may in fact be our most accurate and our unconscious mind and memory are more powerful than we ever realized.
