Family & Companions
First coming to the public's attention as the adorable child actress in "Punky Brewster," Soleil Moon Frye eventually shed the "kiddie" image and become an acclaimed documentary director. Frye got a head start on her career--her father is actor Virgil Frye and her mother is talent agent Sondra Peluce Londy; she also has two-half brothers who are actors. Frye began her professional acting career in 1982, on the TV movie "Missing Children: A Mother's Story," but she didn't have to wait long for her big breakthrough, as she scored the lead role in the family comedy "Punky Brewster" in 1984. Frye won a pair of Young Artist Awards for her work. After "Punky Brewster," Frye continued to act, although her profile diminished somewhat, before scoring a pair of substantial recurring roles on the teen fantasy show "Sabrina, the Teenage Witch" as Roxie King and the animated sitcom "The Proud Family" as Zoe. Frye went on to direct the award-winning 2004 documentary "Sonny Boy," which focused on her relationship with her father, who suffers from Alzheimer's disease.
